Frequently asked questions

What does a Moxi treatment feel like? Is it painful?

Most patients find MOXI very tolerable. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to maximize comfort. During treatment, patients often describe the sensation as warmth or mild prickling.

Is MOXI safe for summer?

Yes. One of the reasons patients love MOXI is its flexibility throughout the year. However, diligent sun protection is essential after treatment. Our team will provide detailed post-care instructions and recommend skincare products to protect your results.

Is MOXI helpful for pigmentation or melasma?

Yes. MOXI is one of our favorite treatments for improving pigmentation and discoloration caused by sun exposure and aging. By creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, MOXI encourages cellular renewal and helps reveal a brighter, more even complexion over time.

While melasma can be complex and requires a personalized approach, MOXI may be incorporated into a treatment plan for certain patients. During your consultation, we will evaluate your skin, discuss your history, and determine whether MOXI, skincare, or a combination approach is best for your specific concerns.

What is the difference between BBL and Moxi Lasers?

MOXI primarily focuses on improving skin texture, pigmentation, and overall skin quality through fractional laser technology. BBL (BroadBand Light) targets redness, pigmentation, and visible signs of sun damage using light energy. Many patients choose to combine these treatments through our Foxy Moxi treatment for comprehensive skin rejuvenation.

What is a Foxy Moxi?

Foxy Moxi combines BBL and MOXI in a single treatment session to address pigmentation, redness, texture, and signs of aging simultaneously. This combination treatment is one of our most popular options for patients looking for comprehensive skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime.

Am I a candidate for Moxi and how do I get started with Moxi treatments?

MOXI is ideal for patients who want to improve pigmentation, texture, early signs of aging, and overall skin quality. It is a popular treatment for both younger patients looking for preventative maintenance and those seeking to correct existing sun damage and discoloration.

Please note- if you have an active tan from the sun or a recent visit to a tanning bed you would need to wait for that to fade before a MOXI treatment.

If you’re not sure if Moxi is right for you or if you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call or schedule a consult and we’ll be happy to help!

How long does one Moxi treatment take and how many treatments are recommended?

Your Moxi appointment will be scheduled for an hour but the treatment itself can be as quick as 20 minutes—most of your time will spent numbing.

Initially, we recommend a series of 3 treatments, followed by maintenance treatments as needed. Before the treatment, a provider will assess your skin and discuss your goals and expectations. This will help us determine if Moxi is the right treatment for you, allow them to customize the procedure to address your specific concerns, and how many treatments may be recommended.

How much downtime does MOXI have?

Most patients experience redness and a sandpaper-like texture for several days following treatment. You will develop something called MENS that looks like little coffee grounds, which will flake off (on their own no scrubbing or picking!) typically at the 5-10 day mark.

Downtime is generally minimal compared to more aggressive laser procedures, making MOXI a popular option for patients looking for noticeable results with limited disruption to their routine.

What pre and post care is required for Moxi treatments?

Pre-care:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and sunless tanner in the area to be treated for 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • 7 days before treatment stop using any retinol, highly acidic skincare and taking aspirin and blood thinners

A quick run-down of post-care includes:

  • Avoid direct sunlight exposure for 7-14 days.
  • Wear SPF 50+ daily- and apply every 4 hours
  • Use gentle cleansers and skincare for the first 7 days
  • No exercise for at least 24 hours
  • Don’t pick, scratch, or remove scabs.

After MOXI, we recommend gentle, hydrating skincare and daily SPF protection. Depending on your goals, we may also recommend pigment-correcting products, growth factors, antioxidants, or other medical-grade skincare to enhance and maintain your results.

In most cases you can wear makeup and resume activities within 1 day.
